Author Notes

Liliana V. Blum was born in Durango, Mexico, in 1974, and has lived in Tampico, in the state of Tamaulipas, since 1997. She holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Kansas and a Master's degree in Education from the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey. She is the author of the short story collections La maldición de Eva (Voces de Barlovento, Tampico, 2002) and Vidas de catálogo (CONACULTA/Fondo Editorial Tierra Adentro, 2007), and co-edited the collection Perros de agua: nuevas voces del Sur de Tamaulipas (Miguel Ángel Porrúa/Ayuntamiento de Tampico, 2007) with Sara Uribe. Her stories have appeared in various literary journals and anthologies, including ¿El crimen como una de las bellas artes? (ICOCULT/Miguel Ángel Porrúa, 2002) and Atrapadas en la madre (Alfaguara, 2007). She is the recipient of the literary awards Premio Nacional de Cuento Mérida Beatriz Espejo (2005), Concurso Regional de Literatura Juan B. Tijerina (2006) and Premio Escribiendo sobre el Conflicto (2008). Blum is currently working on her first novel.

Liliana V. Blum nació en Durango en 1974, pero vive en Tampico desde 1997. Estudió Literatura Comparada en la Universidad de Kansas y la Maestría en Educación, con especialidad en Humanidades, en el ITESM. Fue becaria en Jóvenes Creadores y en Creación Artística por el Fondo Estatal para la Cultura y las Artes de Tamaulipas (FONECAT) durante 2001 y 2005, respectivamente, y por el Fondo Nacional para la Cultural y las Artes (FONCA) en la disciplina de cuento durante 2004-2005. Actualmente posee la beca de Creadores con Trayectoria del Instituto de Cultura del Estado de Durango (ICED).

Liliana es autora del libro La maldición de Eva (Voces de Barlovento, 2002), Vidas de catálogo (Fondo Editorial Tierra Adentro, 2007) y del libro ¿En qué se nos fue toda la mañana? (Instituto Tamaulipeco para la Cultura y las Artes, 2007). Es compiladora, junto con Sara Uribe, de Perros de agua: nuevas voces del Sur de Tamaulipas (Miguel Angel Porrúa-Ayuntamiento de Tampico, 2007). Su libro de cuentos en inglés, The curse of Eve and other stories (traducido por Toshiya Kamei) saldrá en septiembre 2008 por la editorial norteamericana Host Publication. Su nuevo libro de cuentos saldrá en editorial Jus antes de que termine el año. Liliana está incluida en la antología Atrapadas en la madre (Alfaguara, 2007) compilada por Beatriz Espejo y Ethel Krauze, y próximamente en El espejo de Beatriz, en Ficticia Editorial.

Liliana ha publicado sus narraciones en varias revistas electrónicas, como Ficticia, Letralia, Reflexiones, Hobart, Ecléctica, StorySouth, El Collar de la Paloma, Blackbird, The Pedestal Magazine, y Words Without Borders, así como en revistas impresas, como The Bayou Review, The DirtyGoat, Monkey Bicycle, Mosaic Art and Literary Journal, Metamporhoses, Farfelu, y Literal : Latin American Voices, y las inglesas Mslexia (misslexia) y Riot Angel, entre otras. Uno de sus cuentos ganó The Million Writers Award como una de las mejores historias publicadas en internet (en inglés) durante el 2005 y también fue seleccionado para la antología de PulpBits.

Liliana ganó primer lugar en el Segundo Certamen Regional de Minicuentos CRIPIL 2005. Fue finalista en dos ocasiones en el concurso “El Crimen como una de las Bellas Artes”. Asimismo, obtuvo el “Premio Nacional de Cuento Mérida Beatriz Espejo 2005” y el “III Concurso Regional del Noreste “Juan B. Tijerina” en 2006, organizado por el Fondo Regional para la Cultura y las Artes. Recientemente se hizo acreedora al Primer premio del Concurso Internacional de Narrativa Breve convocado por el Centro Israelí para las Comunidades Iberoamericanas (CICLA), “Escribiendo sobre el conflicto.”

Liliana ha participado en los tres encuentros de Jóvenes Escritores del Norte (organizados en Monterrey en 2005,2006 y 2007) y recién participó en el Foro de Novísimas Narradoras de la Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara 2007, organizado por el escritor peruano Julio Ortega.
